The Media Center has been designed by Jim Whalen and Associates who have designed libraries/media centers for Yale and Princeton. In addition to being functional, housing 40,000 volumes and 140 computers, it will also be rich in texture and design. Marble floors and rich cherry wood furniture will invite students to a luxurious academic atmosphere. Because it will provide seating for over 100 students, members of large clubs and organizations will be able to meet there as a group. There will be areas where visiting college reps may inform using three synced LCD projectors for multimedia presentations.
Of course, the library will provide a quiet study area for students. Study tables are equipped with enough networked data and electric ports for more than 50 students and their laptops. Private study carrels will be available to students who prefer to review class textbooks and other hardcopy sources. |
Four labs attached to the main area will be designated for use by teachers of academic subjects. Extensive training on the effective use of the newly available technology will be provided to all teachers. At the Plantation school, geometry or literature comes to life as teachers use special software for interactive projects in these labs.
A“college corner” will actually be a large area where students can research universities through available brochures and DVD’s. A periodical lounge will include hundreds of magazines and a 50 inch plasma TV equipped with wireless headphones for viewing educational DVD’s.
